FAQ

How does EcoChain check the information companies provide?

When you submit an assessment, the EcoChain engine will cross-check your answers to flag any inconsistencies. If anything needs clarification, EcoChain will notify you to request further additional documentation.

Disclaimer: EcoChain does not conduct independent audits. Your company remains strictly responsible for the accuracy of the information provided.

What information and supporting documents do I need to provide?

You’ll provide information about your company and its activities, then answer questions relevant to your industry.

Depending on your sector, required supporting documents may include:

Company Policies: Environmental policy, code of conduct, or human rights guidelines.

Certifications & Reports: ISO certificates, energy/carbon audit reports, or third-party sustainability assessments.

Operational Data: Energy bills, waste management logs, or supply chain disclosures.

Who can access my company’s data, reports and supporting documents?

EcoChain uses the information you provide to calculate scores, prepare reports, and review supporting evidence.

By default, banks, investors, funders, and other portfolio partners receive a summary that combines information from companies across their portfolio.

A report is shared externally only after your company approves its content and agrees on the purpose of sharing.

Supporting documents are only available to users with permission to access them.

How does EcoChain protect company information?

EcoChain protects company information through encrypted connections, private document storage, and access controls that limit who can view or work with your data and supporting documents. These safeguards are supported by regular backups, additional authentication for administrators and session timeouts.

The platform also keeps records of key activities, including changes to data, scores, and access permissions, so those actions can be traced and reviewed when needed.

For organizations with specific security requirements, we can walk you through the safeguards in place and provide further information to support your review.

What frameworks inform EcoChain’s assessments?

EcoChain’s scoring methodology maps criteria from multiple sustainability standards, frameworks and other reference sources.

Its references include GRI, the IFC Performance Standards, IFRS sustainability standards, SROI and PRI, alongside EU requirements such as CSRD and the EU Taxonomy.

The methodology also incorporates relevant Vietnamese regulations and uses industry-specific criteria and materiality to focus on sustainability issues relevant to a company’s activities.

Can EcoChain scores be used in lending or investment decisions?

EcoChain assessments can support due diligence and portfolio monitoring by bringing company information, assessment results and supporting evidence into a structured format.

Banks, investors and other capital providers can use this information alongside their own assessment criteria and review processes. Not only that, portfolio managers can also discuss incorporating institution-specific requirements into their EcoChain assessments.

To sum up, results should be interpreted in light of the assessment date and the available evidence.

Disclaimer: They do not replace the institution’s own due diligence or approval process, and a score does not guarantee financing, investment approval or repayment.

Can portfolio managers add their own assessment criteria?

Yes. Portfolio manager accounts can incorporate additional criteria and features tailored to the organization using them.

For example, a bank could add its own credit assessment criteria or reporting requirements from a development finance institution that provides its funding. These would sit alongside EcoChain’s core assessments and portfolio analysis.

The EcoChain team will work with your organization to agree on what needs to be included and how it can be implemented.

When should my company update its data?

Sustainability reporting follows an annual reporting cycle, while scoring can be carried out at a relevant point in time. For financing due diligence, completing an assessment around the time of submitting an application can help align the information with the institution’s review.
